Is in attendance a imperative surrounded by Michigan requiring parents to tag on 18 year olds to their auto insurance policy?
Answers: Not sure about Michigan but in Indiana they sort you if they live in your household and have a valid drivers license unless you can show they hold a different policy.
For a conclusive answer on this subject, go to the source: contact the MI Insurance Commissioner's department at 1(877)999-6442.
If you are considering not notifying your insurance company about your kids who hold driver licenses and live in your household, don't step there. What you are doing is committing a material misrepresentation more or less the policy. This can allow your company to void coverage for losses under positive cases. It isn't worth the risk. No.
But, assuming the kid is licensed, their INSURANCE COMPANY is allowed to add the kid to their policy. How do they know when you get a license? They hold access to the DMV records, and run the address - and get a report that shows adjectives licensed (or permitted) operators at an address.
So if your parents DON'T add a licensed household contributor, the insurance company will get really cranky. Not to mention, it would be stupid to let your kid drive if they weren't insured. Source(s): agent, 21+ years
